Ajay Devgn's Post-Pandemic Hits Highlighted by Remakes and Franchises

Drishyam The Conclusion continues to perform well at the box office, crossing the Rs. 350 crores mark. In the post-pandemic era, actor Ajay Devgn has delivered five major successes, all of which are either remakes or belong to established franchises.

His first post-pandemic hit was Drishyam 2 (2022), which collected Rs. 240.54 crores in its lifetime, aided by the cult status the 2015 original attained on television and digital platforms. This was followed by Shaitaan (2024), a remake of the Gujarati supernatural thriller Vash (2023), which collected Rs. 149.49 crores.

Subsequent successes included Raid 2 (2025), which collected Rs. 178.08 crores, and Dhamaal 4 (2026), which brought in Rs. 163.80 crores. Drishyam The Conclusion has since surpassed the lifetime collections of Drishyam 2 and emerged as his highest-grossing film ever.

Conversely, several of his other films flopped, including Runway 34 (2022), Maidaan (2024), Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha (2024), and Son Of Sardaar 2 (2025). Meanwhile, Bholaa (2023), Singham Again (2024), and De De Pyaar De 2 (2025) were average performers that also fell into the remake or franchise category.

Looking ahead, Ajay Devgn's next release is the franchise film Golmaal 5, directed by Rohit Shetty and scheduled for January 8, 2027. However, upcoming original projects like Ranger (tentative title) featuring Sanjay Dutt and Tamannaah Bhatia, Chauhaan, and a supernatural thriller directed by Rohit Jugraj offer potential to break the pattern of franchise and remake hits.
