Amit Trivedi Recalls How Shilpa Rao Introduced Him to Anurag Kashyap

Music composer and singer Amit Trivedi recently discussed the early days of his career and how singer Shilpa Rao helped him enter the Hindi film industry. Speaking with trade analyst Komal Nahta on Game Changers: The Music Series, Trivedi reflected on his time in advertising, his initial focus on independent music, and his first meeting with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

Trivedi shared that he met Rao during his advertising work, fell in love with her voice, and collaborated with her on an independent song titled 'Dhol Yara Dhol.' While Trivedi intended to pitch the track to music companies and platforms for a music video, Rao began sharing their music directly with filmmakers.

Reflecting on the introduction, Trivedi recalled Rao calling him to say she had played their songs for Anurag Kashyap and inviting him to a meeting. Trivedi admitted he was shocked at the time, noting that he had planned to stick to independent music and found the film industry intimidating due to being introverted and unfamiliar with the field.

Despite his initial hesitation, Trivedi traveled to Bandra to meet Kashyap, noting that the filmmaker successfully alleviated his fears. Trivedi eventually established himself as a prominent name in contemporary Hindi film music.
