Amit Trivedi Reveals the Personal Heartbreak Behind Lootera Song 'Zinda'
Composer Amit Trivedi shared that the song 'Zinda' from Lootera was originally written for himself during a difficult personal phase and was not meant for the film.
Amit Trivedi Discusses the Origins of 'Zinda'
During a conversation with Komal Nahta, composer Amit Trivedi discussed the highs and lows of his career, including a touching revelation about the song ‘Zinda’ from the 2013 film Lootera, which starred Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. Trivedi revealed that the poignant track was born out of a difficult phase in his personal life and was never originally intended for the movie.
When asked if any song in his discography held a deeper meaning, Trivedi stated, “I composed a song called ‘Mujhe Chod Do, Mere Haal Pe, Zinda Hoon Yaar, Kaafi Hain’. I wrote it for a personal life situation. I wrote it for myself.”
Explaining how the track came to be while work on Lootera was underway, he said he was stressed, sad, and distraught one day. Sitting at the harmonium, he pressed the F-sharp scale and spontaneously sang the tune and lyrics. After wondering where the song came from and deciding it sounded good, he recorded it. He later realized it fit well in the climax of Lootera.
Challenges Working on Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu
Trivedi also discussed his experience working on Shakun Batra's film Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, produced by Karan Johar. Comparing it to his previous smooth experiences—such as working on 5 to 6 films and contributing the single-take song 'Iktara' to Karan Johar's Wake Up Sid (2009)—he described a difficult time where every song was bounced. If Shakun Batra liked a song, Karan Johar would not, and vice versa, leaving him completely bewildered and even bringing him to tears.
