Bhoot (The Ghost)

Set in the mystic and thrilling Jalapahar in Darjeeling, the play Bhoot (The Ghost) follows chartered accountant Diptash as he encounters a strange and eccentric ghost named Mohana Manohara Shovana Sundara Murali Badana Shastri. Their conversations unveil stories of love, neglect, regret, hunger, and war.

Director and Production

The play is directed by Ishita, who holds a post-graduate degree in Comparative Literature, worked as a journalist, and has scripted and directed over 20 plays. Ushneek, formed in 1984 and registered in 1991, has completed its 41st year as of May 13, 2025. The group has participated in major festivals across India, including Nandikar Natya Utsav, Natya Academy Natya Utsav, Yuva Utkal International Festival, Sangeet Natak Academy festival, the 8th Theatre Olympics, and BRM 21, and has been invited to the USA with its latest production, Bhoot.

Director's Note

Director Ishita notes that being the playwright made directing simpler, approaching the play realistically before it turns surreal. The main focus was building a relationship of love and friendship between a human and a ghost, aiming toward universal brotherhood against all violence.
