The public disagreement between Kelly Clarkson and the Brooklyn curiosity shop Art of Play has escalated. The store stated that the singer spent barely five minutes inside and disputed her account of a rude shopping experience involving a mechanical bird.

The dispute started when Clarkson accused the shop of treating her as though she could not afford an item, comparing the incident to a scene from the 1990 film Pretty Woman and criticizing the store on social media. Clarkson previously called the shop "rude" and a "liar" following its initial response.

In a follow-up Instagram post on Monday, October 12, 2026, Art of Play clarified details of the visit, stating, "During the 5 minutes she spent in the store, she inquired about our mechanical bird puppet named Molly," and noted that she was offered an alternative mechanical bird after asking about the store's singing automaton.
