Christa Pike, who spent nearly 31 years behind bars for the killing of Colleen Slemmer, was originally scheduled for execution by lethal injection on September 30, 2026. The attempt failed after she survived two doses of the lethal drugs. Six days after the failed execution and subsequent hospitalization for life-saving care, her attorneys stated on October 6, 2026, that she is awake and talking, describing her recovery as a “medically unprecedented” event following two lethal doses of pentobarbital.
