Collin Gosselin has shared details about his childhood and memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, published on October 13, 2026. In the book, Collin accuses his mother, Kate Plus 8 alum Kate Gosselin, of abusing him and details a tense interaction from when he was 12 years old.

Now 22 years old, Collin recalled the last time he saw his mother at a mental institution when he was 12, stating that she told him, “You broke our family.” He also noted that she appeared visibly disappointed and “horrified” by the weight he had gained during his stay at the institution. According to Collin, his mother had previously warned him about his health, though he did not have much choice regarding his meals.
