Director Gurmmeet Singh Decodes Sonal Chauhan's Climax Scene in Mirzapur The Movie
Director Gurmmeet Singh opens up about the shocking climax scene in Mirzapur The Movie, featuring Sonal Chauhan, Satendra Soni, and Ravi Kishan, and the challenges of balancing audience reactions.
Director Gurmmeet Singh recently discussed the memorable climax scene in Mirzapur The Movie where Mumtaz, played by Sonal Chauhan, is shot unexpectedly by Chandu Puncture, played by Satendra Soni. Speaking about the sequence, Singh noted the mixed reactions from audiences, ranging from shock to laughter and sheer disbelief.
Singh explained the concerns behind the scene, stating they were worried the scales would tip too much in favor of Ravi Kishan's character, Babban. The filmmakers wanted to ensure audiences still rooted for characters like Guddu (Ali Fazal), Munna (Divyenndu), and Kaleen Bhaiyya (Pankaj Tripathi). The character of Chandu Puncture was specifically created so that an innocent person would kill Mumtaz by mistake rather than out of aggression, creating a bittersweet dichotomy for viewers.
According to Singh, the emotion landed most strongly when Chandu dies, leaving audiences gasping or going silent. He also praised working with Ravi Kishan, describing him as an entertaining, deep-thinking institution who has completed over 700 films.
Additionally, Singh revealed that The Good The Bad And The Ugly inspired the film's big-screen look and addressed CBFC cuts, noting the board was collaborative and viewed the project as a piece of pop culture.
