Disha Patani Reflects on 10 Years in Bollywood and Looks Ahead to New Genres
As she marks 10 years in Hindi cinema, Disha Patani discusses her personal and professional growth, her upcoming Hollywood debut, and her desire to take on challenging, diverse roles.
Marking a Decade in Hindi Cinema
As Disha Patani completes 10 years in Hindi cinema, the actress is looking forward to exploring different genres and taking on more challenging roles. Reflecting on her journey, Patani stated that her biggest transformation has been personal, accompanied by a growing understanding of her craft and a desire to keep learning.
Recalling her debut in M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Patani shared that everything was new to her at the time. She was learning how a set works, how to face the camera, how to understand a character, and how to take direction. While she described herself as instinctive during those early years, she now feels a better understanding of her work and greater comfort in trusting her instincts, while remaining conscious of the importance of consistent effort.
“I never want to reach a point where I feel like I know everything or that I can do something without putting in the work,” Patani said, adding that the uncertainty of approaching a new character keeps her engaged as an actor.
Exploring New Roles and Genres
Patani’s curiosity is shaping the projects she wants to pursue next. She is interested in portraying characters with contradictions and depth, where physicality and glamour take a back seat to the story and the character. Her preferred genres to explore include psychological dramas, character-driven thrillers, and action films featuring compelling roles.
As she begins her second decade in the industry, Patani also wants to collaborate with filmmakers from different backgrounds and work across languages and genres. “I don’t want to be defined by one particular kind of role or image,” she stated.
Upcoming Projects
Professionally, Patani was last seen in Welcome To The Jungle and Awarapan 2. She is also set to make her Hollywood debut in the supernatural action-thriller The Portal of Force, and she joins R Madhavan and Shriya Saran in an upcoming comedy by Akshay Kumar and Sajid Khan.
