The family of 23-year-old William Chapman, who was mauled to death by a Siberian tiger named Altai at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, has revealed he suffered from mental illness for years.
A shocking incident occurred at Yorkshire Wildlife Park on the afternoon of October 10, 2026, when a 23-year-old man named William Chapman was mauled to death by a Siberian tiger named Altai after entering the mammal's enclosure. Reports indicated he jumped about 12 feet to reach the enclosure.
Following the incident, the victim's family shared in an interview with The Independent that William had suffered from a significant, long-standing mental illness and was on strong medication.
