Geeta Agrawal Sharma and Director Keigan Pinto Discuss Dementia Awareness Film Vajood Rahe Maujood
Tata Trusts launched the short film Vajood Rahe Maujood to raise awareness about dementia. Actor Geeta Agrawal Sharma and writer-director Keigan Pinto discuss the project, its creative concept, and its positive reception.
Vajood Rahe Maujood Raises Awareness About Dementia
On September 2, Tata Trusts launched Vajood Rahe Maujood, a film aimed at raising awareness about dementia. The seven-minute short film features Geeta Agrawal Sharma as a mother showing early signs of dementia, and Priyanshu Painyuli as her son and primary caregiver. Creative Chief, Writer, and Director Keigan Pinto and Geeta Agrawal Sharma discussed the film and its message.
Regarding the positive response, Geeta Agrawal Sharma noted that short films can be watched instantly and on repeat, allowing them to reach audiences quickly. Discussing the concept, Keigan Pinto explained that the loss of identity, or vajood, is a scientific reality of dementia. The film features a son reciting a poem to his mother on her birthday about her condition. The creative team also intentionally chose a male caregiver to explore the emotional struggle men often face when expressing emotions.
Preparation and Working with Tata Trusts
To prepare for her role, Geeta Agrawal Sharma drew from observing people around her and her own everyday experiences of misplacing items or forgetting words. Keigan Pinto praised Tata Trusts as a philanthropic organization with a scientific approach, noting that this is his third project with the brand.
Reflecting on her recent projects—including 12th Fail, Laapataa Ladies, OMG 2, Fighter, Saiyara, Ohh My Dog, and Satluj—Geeta Agrawal Sharma noted that people recognize her and her films on the streets. Keigan Pinto praised her performance, stating, “Geeta ji is the Amitabh Bachchan of female actor today!”
Looking ahead, Keigan Pinto stated that additional video assets, static communications, and posters are planned to inform people about dementia prevention and steps to take if they notice signs in a family member.
