Gulshan Devaiah Discusses Little Thomas, CBFC Rating, and Cinema Challenges
Gulshan Devaiah opens up about starring in the light-hearted film Little Thomas, expresses surprise over its CBFC U/A 7+ rating, and discusses the challenges smaller films face in cinemas.
Actor Gulshan Devaiah stars in the light-hearted and adorable film Little Thomas. Discussing what drew him to the project, Devaiah highlighted the film's innocence, stating that it reminds viewers of their childhood and bygone days. He also noted that his character, Desmond, is innocent and naive, and he was excited to interpret the role. Another motivating factor was director Kaushal Oza, whom Devaiah praised after seeing The Miniaturist Of Junagadh and meeting to discuss the vision for the film.
Devaiah expressed surprise regarding the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) awarding Little Thomas a U/A 7+ certificate instead of a 'U' rating. He stated that he does not know on what basis the decision was made or how the committee interpreted the guidelines.
Addressing the challenges smaller films face in securing cinema shows and dealing with multiplex scheduling, Devaiah acknowledged that theater owners face business realities such as electricity bills and staff salaries. While noting that drawing audiences has always been difficult throughout the history of cinema, he emphasized that positive word of mouth and proper publicity can help create buzz for a film.
