Hansal Mehta’s National Award-Winning Film Shahid Arrives on Prime Video After 13 Years

Thirteen years after its theatrical release, Hansal Mehta’s National Award-winning film Shahid is now available to stream on Prime Video. Produced by Bohra Bros and released in 2013, the drama stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role and is based on the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi.

The film earned National Film Awards for Rajkummar Rao as Best Actor and Hansal Mehta for Best Direction. The cast also features Prabhleen Sandhu as Mariam, alongside Kay Kay Menon, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Vipin Sharma in key roles.

Reflecting on the production, Bohra Bros co-founder Sunil Bohra recalled making the film with limited resources and borrowing a few lakhs at extremely high interest to keep the project moving. Despite the financial struggles, Bohra noted that he remembers the journey and working with filmmaker Hansal Mehta as a cherished experience.

Prabhleen Sandhu also shared her thoughts on the project, stating that working with Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar Rao remains one of the finest experiences of her life.

Shahid is currently available to stream on Prime Video.
