Hombale Films to Handle Overseas Distribution for Marathi Film Gondhal

Hombale Films is expanding its global footprint by bringing the Marathi drama Gondhal to international cinema screens, following the film's national acclaim and its selection as India’s official entry for the 99th Academy Awards.

Written and directed by Santosh Davakhar, Gondhal is a Marathi folk-thriller starring an ensemble cast that includes Kishor Kadam, Ishita Deshmukh, Yogesh Sohoni, and Nishad Bhoir, with music composed by Ilaiyaraaja.

The film is based on a traditional overnight devotional ritual in rural Maharashtra, telling a story of faith, human passion, power, and betrayal. It has won critical acclaim and top honors at major film festivals, including the Silver Peacock for Best Director at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), and was selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2027 in the Best International Feature Film category.

Pan-India banner Hombale Films is officially backing the film to handle its overseas theatrical distribution. Announcing the news on social media alongside a poster, the production house stated that it is proud to bring the story to audiences globally, with the overseas release coming soon in cinemas.

Hombale Films is known for backing blockbuster franchises and films such as KGF, Kantara, Salaar, and Mahavatar Narsimha, and has previously internationally distributed Hanuman Ansh. Its upcoming lineup includes Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam, Mahavatar Parshuram, Suriya 48, Yeto Ka Naay, and a collaboration with Hrithik Roshan.
