Jackky Bhagnani Reflects on 25 Years of Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein

Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (RHTDM), starring R Madhavan, Dia Mirza, and Saif Ali Khan, reaches its 25th anniversary on October 19. Jackky Bhagnani, who worked as an assistant on the romantic drama, reflected on the making of the project and the enduring popularity of characters Maddy and Reena.

Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, the film adapted the Tamil film Minnale for Hindi-speaking audiences. The project introduced R Madhavan in a leading Hindi cinema role and marked Dia Mirza's Bollywood entry. Jackky noted that Madhavan was instrumental in bringing Gautham Menon on board to direct the Hindi version, while Vashu Bhagnani selected Dia Mirza for the role of Reena.

Reflecting on the film's legacy, Jackky Bhagnani stated, “When we were making RHTDM, none of us could have imagined that 25 years later, people would still be talking about Maddy and Reena with this kind of affection. What makes the film special is that the audience has made it their own. They have their favourite scenes, their favourite songs and their own memories attached to the film.”

The film's soundtrack, featuring songs like 'Zara Zara' and 'Sach Keh Raha Hai', continues to connect with younger audiences who discovered the movie years after its release. Jackky added, “A new generation discovered it, fell in love with its music and connected with Maddy and Reena without having experienced the time in which the film was made. Twenty-five years on, that is the real legacy.”
