Jailer 2 Becomes First South Film to Get Midnight Shows in North India in Original Language

The Rajinikanth starrer Jailer 2 has emerged as a major exception in 2026 for Pan-India films, performing strongly across the country. In the North, the Tamil version has shown encouraging occupancy in single screens and non-national multiplexes, despite the film not releasing in national multiplex chains in any language.

The strong response led MovieMax to organise midnight shows of Jailer 2 at MovieMax Huma in Kanjurmarg, Mumbai, and MovieMax Gold in Kalyani Nagar, Pune. Exhibition sources claim this makes Jailer 2 the first South film to achieve this distinction in the North Indian market in its original language. MovieMax Gold scheduled a 1:45 am show on Monday, October 19.

Meanwhile, the Hindi version, Rajini: The Jailer 2, recorded collections of Rs. 2.56 crores on Thursday, October 15, and Rs. 2.41 crores on Friday, with Saturday jumping to Rs. 3.63 crores and Sunday expected to touch Rs. 4 crores. These figures come without a release in national multiplex chains like PVR INOX, Cinepolis, and Miraj due to the film's four-week OTT window.

Due to the high demand and underperformance of releases like Nayyi Navelli, several cinemas have started replacing other shows with the Rajinikanth starrer. Mumbai's Citylight cinema dropped Nayyi Navelli, the Marathi film Sohla, and Drishyam The Conclusion from Monday, October 19, to play shows of Prahaar and Rajini: The Jailer 2.

Show counts for the Hindi version grew from 1,730 shows on Thursday to 3,266 on Friday and 3,690 on Saturday. Cinemas such as Maratha Mandir and Kasturba in Malad have dedicated multiple daily screenings to the Hindi and Tamil versions.
