Karan Johar Recalls How Salman Khan Agreed to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Without a Full Narration

Karan Johar Shares Memories of Casting Salman Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

During the premiere episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9, filmmaker Karan Johar revisited the casting of his directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Johar revealed that Salman Khan agreed to take on a special appearance in the film after multiple leading actors turned down the role.

Recalling the collaboration, Johar shared that Khan casually invited him to narrate the film after a conversation about shopping. When Johar visited Khan at his apartment, the actor—dressed in yellow shorts—agreed to join the project without listening to the complete narration and despite being told there would be no remuneration for his special appearance.

The two also discussed the longstanding bond between their families during the episode. Johar recalled an instance where his father personally traveled to Mauritius to help secure government permissions for Khan's ongoing shoot for Hello Brother.

Reshooting the Climax Sequence

The premiere also touched upon a technical issue during the filming of the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai climax, where the camera operator accidentally filmed the entire sequence in slow motion, requiring a reshoot. Despite having another shoot scheduled, Khan postponed his next day's schedule by a day to stay on set and complete the sequence, supporting Johar during the production.
