Kumar Taurani Breaks Silence on Vashu Bhagnani Legal Battle and Decades-Old Friendship Fallout

Producer Vashu Bhagnani filed a case in Katihar, Bihar, over the alleged unauthorized use of songs from his films, specifically pointing to recreated versions of ‘Chunari Chunari’ and ‘Ishq Sona Hai’ from Biwi No 1 (1999) used in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai (2026). Tips, which produced the Varun Dhawan-starrer, maintained it holds all rights to use the songs.

Addressing the feud during an interview, Kumar Taurani questioned the logic behind producers demanding royalties for recreated versions after selling the rights. He stated, "Aapne paise leke mujhe maal de diya. Toh ab kiska maal hua?"

Commenting on Vashu Bhagnani, Kumar Taurani noted that contracts were signed 20-25 years ago without prior objections. He also questioned why the case was filed in a court located 200-300 kms from Patna when contracts state Mumbai is the jurisdiction. He mentioned that they received relief from the High Court and Supreme Court, directing the case to Mumbai.

Reflecting on their history, Kumar Taurani shared that they brought Vashu Bhagnani into the industry and made their first films together, later supporting him in producing independently. When asked if they are still on talking terms, Kumar replied, "No. Abhi thodi doori hai. What to do? If he had a grievance, he could have come and spoken to us."

Kumar also stated that Vashu Bhagnani had previously worked out a deal with them to use songs for the 2020 film Coolie No 1, acknowledging Tips as the rights holder, before changing his stance during the current dispute.
