Kumar Taurani Reveals The Unexpected Economics And Behind-The-Scenes Struggle Of Main Vaapas Aaunga’s Music
Kumar Taurani discusses the unexpected journey of Main Vaapas Aaunga's music, revealing it will take five years to recover costs and detailing Imtiaz Ali's vital role in promotions.
Ramesh Taurani and Kumar Taurani recently spoke with Komal Nahta about the sleeper hit Main Vaapas Aaunga, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina. When asked to name a film album they never imagined would become a rage, both unanimously named the film.
Kumar Taurani shared his initial doubts about the music, noting that the songs were a bit sad and the first few tracks did not receive the desired traction. However, they had purchased the music rights due to the collaboration of Diljit Dosanjh, Imtiaz Ali, and A.R. Rahman.
To boost the project, Kumar Taurani doubled the promotional expenditure and urged Imtiaz Ali to lead the promotional campaign since Diljit Dosanjh was busy with his shows and the other actors were relatively new. Imtiaz Ali conducted an extensive campaign starting three weeks before the release and continuing for three weeks after, which helped the film achieve a business of Rs. 70-80 crores.
Regarding the financial return on the music, Kumar Taurani revealed that it will take around five years to recover their investment. Additionally, producer Shibasish Sarkar expressed appreciation for the support and accessibility provided by Kumar Taurani during the process.
