Kumar Taurani Reveals Tips Lost Money on Ek Rishtaa Due to Suneel Darshan Preponing Release

Kumar and Ramesh Taurani discussed negative experiences working on film music, noting that Tips lost money on Ek Rishtaa - The Bond Of Love when director Suneel Darshan released the film in three weeks instead of the promised eight to ten weeks.

Ramesh Taurani and Kumar Taurani recently spoke with Komal Nahta about their journey and experiences working on the music of significant films in their careers, during which they highlighted three difficult experiences.

Discussing the first film, Ramesh Taurani mentioned Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke (2001), stating that director Deepak Shivdasani did not listen to them. Kumar Taurani added that suggestions given to improve the film and music were ignored.

For the second film, Kyun Ho Gaya Na (2004), Ramesh noted that director Samir Karnik was very rigid, though Kumar clarified that they later maintained great relations and decided to collaborate on more films.

Kumar Taurani then discussed a third experience involving Suneel Darshan, whom he described as a very good maker with a good ear for music. Tips had purchased the music rights for Darshan's film Ek Rishtaa - The Bond Of Love (2001) at a very high price. According to Kumar, Darshan had committed to giving them eight to 10 weeks to promote the film before its release.

However, Kumar revealed that Darshan suddenly decided to prepone the release and bring the film to cinemas in three weeks. Despite explaining that the music was just picking up and needed more time to establish properly, Darshan did not relent, resulting in significant financial losses for Tips. Ramesh added that the film itself would have also benefited from more time.

Kumar further stated that two years later, Darshan made Andaaz (2003) and launched his own music label, promoting those songs for eight to 10 weeks. Because those songs became very popular, Darshan realized he had made a mistake during Ek Rishtaa, making it an unfavorable experience for Tips.
