Kunal Kapoor Praises Ranbir Kapoor as the “Perfect Choice” for Lord Ram in Ramayana

Kunal Kapoor has praised his Ramayana co-star Ranbir Kapoor, calling him the “perfect choice” to portray Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming mythological epic. Kunal plays Lord Indra in the film and also discussed producer Namit Malhotra’s vision for the project.

Speaking about Ranbir’s casting, Kunal stated that portraying Lord Ram requires a restrained performance rather than an overtly dramatic approach. He believes Ranbir possesses the necessary qualities for the role.

“Ranbir is the perfect choice,” Kunal said. “Shree Ram is the hardest kind of role because you can’t perform him, you have to be him. It needs stillness, grace, an actor who can say everything while doing almost nothing. Very few people can hold a frame that quietly. Ranbir can.”

Kunal also expressed appreciation for Namit Malhotra, describing him as a visionary and highlighting his commitment to the project. Kunal noted that after 25 years in the industry, he has rarely seen someone bring that level of passion, time, and resources to a film.

A recently released Ramayana trailer provides a first look at Kunal as Lord Indra, the King of Devas, showing the actor in metallic armour and riding Airavata, the celestial white elephant. The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, produced by Namit Malhotra, and scheduled to release in theatres on November 5.
