Story Overview

Raja Mishra is a student leader at a college in Sonbhadra, a small town in Uttar Pradesh. He resides in a village on the outskirts of the city, where Geeta—a young girl living with her aunt—is deeply in love with him, though Raja views her only as a friend.

Meanwhile, Kayanat, a Muslim girl from Aligarh, visits Sonbhadra briefly to conduct fossil research for her PhD. She meets Raja, and they develop a close friendship. To avoid social complications, Raja introduces Kayanat to the villagers as "Manika" and hosts her at his home. Their friendship eventually turns into love.

Following the completion of her PhD, Kayanat returns to Aligarh, where her marriage to Ekram is arranged. Ekram discovers Raja and Kayanat's relationship prior to the wedding and, driven by anger and jealousy, attempts to kill Raja. Raja survives the attack but falls into a coma.
