Lara Dutta Discusses Mother’s Decade-Long Battle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia
Actor Lara Dutta shared her personal experience with her mother's 10-year battle with Alzheimer's and dementia during an awareness conference on World Alzheimer's Day.
Actor Lara Dutta recently spoke about her mother’s decade-long experience with Alzheimer’s and Dementia during a conference focused on raising awareness about the condition on World Alzheimer’s Day. Speaking with the media after the event, Lara highlighted the importance of recognizing early signs and encouraging open conversations about the disease.
Sharing her personal experience, Lara revealed that her 80-year-old mother has been living with Alzheimer’s and dementia for nearly 10 years. She also emphasized the vital role played by doctors, caregivers, and a strong support system in providing necessary care.
Lara stated, "Today is World Alzheimer’s Day, and the most important message I would like to share is that we tend to think Alzheimer’s is just a disease of forgetfulness. My mother is 80 years old, and she has been living with Alzheimer’s and dementia for quite a long time—about 10 years, a decade. And the kind of care we have been able to provide her would not have been possible without the support of great doctors, a strong support system, and caregivers."
The actor urged people not to dismiss changes in memory or thinking as a normal part of aging, advising families to consult healthcare professionals if they notice such changes in themselves or loved ones. She encouraged starting conversations early, asking questions, and seeking guidance from healthcare practitioners.
