Lekha Washington Shares Police Van Photo After Imran Khan Receives 'Leave India' Notice

Imran Khan’s partner, Lekha Washington, shared a photo of the couple inside a police van days after the actor was detained during a protest in Mumbai and directed to leave India by October 28. Washington shared the post on Friday, October 16, appearing to express support for Khan.

Washington captioned the picture with the word “Just” and a string of heart emojis. Zayn Marie Khan reacted to the post with a comment featuring numerous heart emojis. The image appears to be from the October 10 protest where Khan, Washington, and Zayn Marie Khan were detained by Mumbai Police.

The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Mumbai, issued a notice directing Khan to leave India by October 28. Khan is a US citizen and holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.

Khan participated in a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10, which was linked to the Cockroach Janta Party and involved demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He was briefly detained during the demonstration.

The notice cites provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, alleging that Khan contravened rules for foreign nationals. The action followed a complaint by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya regarding Khan's participation in the political protest, as foreign nationals are not permitted to participate in such events in India.

Khan is expected to challenge the FRRO notice before the Bombay High Court, with his legal team indicating he will contest the order and maintaining he did not violate the applicable conditions.
