Lyricist Mehboob Discusses Adnan Sami's 'Ishq Tamasha' and Reveals Trivia About 'Tadap Tadap Ke'

Lyricist Mehboob shared insights into writing Adnan Sami's single 'Ishq Tamasha' and revealed that the famous song 'Tadap Tadap Ke' was originally created for a shelved film titled Dus directed by Mukul Anand.

Lyricist Mehboob recently spoke about his work on Adnan Sami's single 'Ishq Tamasha' and shared trivia regarding some of his most famous songs from past films.

Reflecting on the creation of 'Ishq Tamasha', Mehboob explained that he and Adnan Sami previously worked together on songs like 'Baadal' from Yuva (2004) and 'Aaja Aaja' from Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke (2001). While working on the new tune, the phrase 'Ishq Tamasha' emerged, leading them to build the song around the concept that love can become a spectacle when outside voices and misunderstandings enter a relationship.

Mehboob also discussed his career and health, noting that he stepped back from songwriting in the mid-2000s due to multiple slipped discs before making a comeback with Heropanti 2 (2022).

Sharing behind-the-scenes trivia about the legendary song 'Tadap Tadap Ke' from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Mehboob revealed that the track was originally created by him and Ismail Darbar for a film titled Dus. The movie was to be directed by Mukul Anand and featured Dilip Kumar as a Sufi qawwal. After Mukul Anand passed away and the film was shelved, Sanjay Leela Bhansali heard the song, which eventually led to their work on Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Additionally, Mehboob discussed his work on Rangeela (1995), explaining that growing in Mumbai helped him capture the street rhythm and slang for Aamir Khan's character, Munna. He also mentioned that the lyrics for 'Kya Karein Ya Na Karein' were changed after he and Ram Gopal Varma realized the initial version was too poetic for Munna's character.
