Madonna Recalls 1984 Wardrobe Malfunction After Recent VMAs Return
Madonna recalled being told her career was over following a 1984 wardrobe malfunction during her recent return to the VMAs stage.
The Queen of Pop, Madonna, made a comeback on the VMAs stage after 23 years. In 2003, Madonna kissed Britney Spears on the lips during a live performance, after which she had not performed live at the VMAs until opening the award show in 2026. Her performance featured a collaboration with Charli XCX and Sabrina Carpenter.
During her acceptance speech, Madonna walked down memory lane and recalled being told that her career was almost over after her backside was exposed during a wardrobe malfunction at the 1984 VMAs. For her 2026 appearance, Madonna wore a deep red lingerie corset bodysuit with a black silk robe, knee-high boots, diamond hoops, gloves, and signature black glasses.
