Mukta Nisanga Explores Isolation and Aging in Professor Dr Hazarika’s Story

Mukta Nisanga follows the life and struggles of Dr Hazarika, a professor dealing with aging, illness, and isolation, based on the work of Anton Chekhov and directed by Baharul Islam.

Mukta Nisanga explores the life of a professor, Dr Hazarika, who feels disconnected from the world around him. The story delves into his mundane life, highlighting his struggles with aging, illness, and the meaninglessness of his existence. Through Dr Hazarika's narrative, Anton Chekhov critiques the societal expectations and pressures that lead to a sense of purposelessness and isolation. The play serves as a thought-provoking commentary on the human condition.

Anton Chekhov (1860 – 1904) was a Russian playwright and short-story writer widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of all time and a seminal figure in early modernism in the theatre. Director Baharul Islam, an alumnus of NSD and founder of the theatre group Seagull in Guwahati, directed the production. Seagull, established on December 10, 1990, operates multiple wings including a theatre academy, repertory company, and educational programs.
