NAAM MEIN KA RAKHWO HAI? Play Details

An overview of the play 'Naam mein ka rakhwo hai?', directed by Saurabh Nayyar and co-written by Saurabh Nayyar and Niketa Saraf for the Jubilee Theatre Foundation.

Naam Mein Ka Rakhwo Hai?

In a fictional village, a unique tradition unfolds every full moon night where a Swayamvara is organized for women to choose their ideal "Sushil Ladka". The village’s eldest woman, Somavanti, presents a riddle, and whoever solves it gets the chance to tell her a tale under the condition that the story must be a lie. The most convincing falsehood wins, and each tale serves as a sharp satire exposing uncomfortable truths. Ultimately, life is revealed to be a web of riddles and stories, with love as the element that truly touches us.

Director

Saurabh Nayyar began his theatre journey in 2005 with Vivechna Rangmandal Jabalpur. After joining Prithvi Theatre, he volunteered with the London-based Complicite theatre group and later joined Manav Kaul’s Aranya theatre group. He has acted in acclaimed plays such as Ilhaam, Red Sparrow, Bali aur Shambhu, and Mamtaz Bhai Patang Wale, and is best known for his roles in Piya Behrupiya and Stories in a Song. He has written six plays, including three musical plays for children, adapted Baaghi Albele for the Aadyam Theatre Festival 2023, and directed the widely appreciated musical play Golden Jubilee. He has worked with directors including Sunil Shanbag, Saurabh Shukla, Manav Kaul, Rajat Kapoor, Atul Kumar, and Akarsh Khurana.

Director’s Note

The directing approach focused on simplicity and minimalistic elements to keep the audience's focus on the text rather than the set. Because the setting is a fictional village, the language used is Hindi with an understandable fictional dialect, presented in the simplest way possible to make the world of the play feel close to the audience.

Writers

Saurabh Nayyar started his writing journey with poems and short stories, adapting plays like Khwaab sa and Baaghi Albele, both directed by Atul Kumar. He also co-wrote and directed Golden Jubilee and has written six plays in total, including three musical plays for children.

Niketa Saraf began with short stories and wrote the short film Dhunak, which won awards at multiple short film festivals. Naam mein ka rakhwo hai? is her first full-length play, co-written with Saurabh Nayyar.

Group

The Jubilee Theatre Foundation is a dynamic group of artists producing musicals, children's plays, social dramas, and thought-provoking productions that address societal issues and complex human emotions. Their work focuses on fostering collaboration and encouraging artistic growth.
