Darrell Waltrip, a NASCAR legend, Hall of Famer, and television personality, is stepping away from public appearances following a diagnosis of frontotemporal degeneration (FTD), a progressive brain disorder.
Waltrip has chosen a quieter life to spend more time with his wife, Stevie, their two daughters, and three young grandchildren. Waltrip's family announced the FTD diagnosis on September 23, 2026, noting that his condition is currently limited to minor symptoms and detailing the reasons for his withdrawal from public life.
