Navjot Gulati Reveals Pooja Meri Jaan Was Inspired by Rhea Chakraborty's Media Trial
Director Navjot Gulati discusses his film Pooja Meri Jaan, starring Mrunal Thakur and Huma Qureshi, sharing that the media trial of Rhea Chakraborty inspired aspects of the movie.
Director Navjot Gulati recently spoke about his film Pooja Meri Jaan, which stars Mrunal Thakur and Huma Qureshi. Gulati co-wrote the drama with Kanishka, noting that having a female writer was important to bring a female perspective to the sensitive topic.
Discussing the film's storyline, where the main character Pooja faces media hounding and internet backlash in the first half, Gulati addressed similarities to the Rhea Chakraborty case. While he started writing the film in April 2020 before the case unfolded, he noted that he took notes from what happened to Chakraborty. Gulati stated that the witch hunt against her was wrong at every level.
Gulati also discussed the casting process, sharing that Mrunal Thakur came on board after loving the script and relating to the character due to her own experiences. The film was shot in 32 days across Delhi-NCR. Produced by Maddock Films, Gulati expressed that he is glad the film is finally out and generating conversations.
Looking ahead, Gulati spoke about his other projects, including Badtameez Gill starring Vaani Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, and Paresh Rawal, which is hoping for an early next year release. He is also working on casting for a dark comedy about news channels as his next project after Badtameez Gill.
