Nimrat Kaur Recalls Losing Her Father to Terrorism at Age 11

Actor Nimrat Kaur has opened up about a painful childhood memory, recalling the kidnapping and assassination of her father in Kashmir when she was 11 years old. In a conversation with ANI, Kaur discussed the circumstances surrounding his death and how the loss affected her, her sister, and their mother.

Kaur recalled that her father left for work on a normal day and was subsequently kidnapped on his way back from a duty assignment by individuals posing as soldiers in army fatigues. Over a seven-day period, the kidnappers made demands, including the release of people held in captivity in India.

At the time, Kaur was visiting her father in Kashmir with her mother and sister. As safety conditions worsened, the family relocated from Verinag to Srinagar. Seven days after the kidnapping, they received the news that he had been assassinated, prompting the family to move to Noida.

Reflecting on the lack of closure, Kaur noted that the last time she saw her father was when he left for work, and the next time was in a coffin. Decades later, she stated that the loss remains unrepairable for her, her mother, her sister, and the rest of the family.

Discussing the emotional weight of subsequent terror attacks, such as the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, Kaur explained that having lived through a similar loss gives her an understanding of the gravity of the situation and the daily struggles families face. She also praised her mother for single-handedly rebuilding their lives with dignity following the tragedy.
