Nirjan Rakhal: Production Details, Writer, Director, and Group Information
An overview of the play Nirjan Rakhal, featuring details about writer Dr. Snehashis Bhattacharyya, director Biplab Dey, and the Ritwik theatre group.
Nirjan Rakhal
Satyakam, the son of Jabala, has an unknown paternal linkage and lacks a 'gotra', making him unwanted and ridiculed by fellow disciples when he goes to a Guru's home to be educated. Reared by Jabala with dedication to truth, Satyakam is entrusted by Acharya Gautam with the duty of caring for old and diseased cows in nature's lap. He acquires knowledge from nature, faces real and creative truth, and returns to the ashram flowing with self-knowledge.
Writer
Dr. Snehashis Bhattacharyya's first play, Swapnoparosh, was staged by the Natyaranga theatre group in 2011. Selected for the International Playwrights' Workshop organized by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, to commemorate Rabindranath Tagore's birth centenary, he wrote the drama Sada Pata based on a Tagore story. His other plays include Agnisikha Eso, Journey for Freedom, Khule Dekh Dwar, Mr. Bhulu, Chaturtha Natak, Gobhir Asukh, Kukur Hoite Sabdhan, Anahuto, and Jibankahini. Major publications include Kalkut: Antohin Anweshan, Mr. Bhulu O Anyanya Natak, and the novel Power Game.
Director
Biplab Dey grew up in a family with a deep interest in music and Jatra. In 1996, he joined Ritwik, Berhampore, and trained under Bengal theatre directors such as Bibhas Chakraborty and Usha Ganguly. His directorial credits include Sesh Raksha, Aadi Raja, Aandhare Surjo, Juto, Ghosts, Champabati, Tusher Agun, Gora, Apan Ghar, Kana Khora Bekar Jora, and Charan Gatha.
Director's Note
To locate one's own space on the world map, one must acquire a distinct entity, a quality possessed by India. Being part of India does not require belonging to a specific cast, community, creed, religion, or race, though division and hate currently infect veins. A diverse society can still be developed to reach the state of a cultured and esteemed nationality.
Group
The Ritwik theatre group was established on May 8, 1980. The group conducts workshops, seminars, and theatre-related activities year-round, alongside involvement in recitation and dance, producing several acclaimed productions.
