Nirmaan se Nirvaan Tak: Play Details and Background
An overview of the play Nirmaan se Nirvaan Tak, based on the work of playwright Bijay Mishra and directed by Bipin Kumar.
Nirmaan se Nirvaan Tak is based on ‘Tat Niranjana,’ written by renowned Odia playwright Dr. Bijay Mishra. The play uses the narrative metaphor of river geomorphology—representing the young, mature, and old stages of a river—to depict different stages of Gautam Buddha's mind through the characters Neelalohit and Echchhamati. The title symbolizes how a river accumulates sediments and loses its existence when meeting the ocean.
Dr. Bijay Mishra was born in 1936 in Balasore, Odisha, and wrote numerous plays, Odia films, TV serials, and documentaries, earning recognition such as a National award from A.I.R. and the Kendriya Sahitya Academy Award.
The play is directed by Bipin Kumar, a 1987 alumnus of the National School of Drama and current Director of Bhartendu Natya Akademi, Lucknow. His accolades include the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Jharkhand State Award, and Sikkim State Award.
According to the director's note, the play highlights the instability, dilemma, and uncertainty of today's individual through past reactions, while exploring man-woman relationships at multiple levels.
The production is associated with Bhartendu Natya Akademi, established in August 1975 by the Culture Department, Uttar Pradesh, in memory of Bhartendu Harishchandra.
