Nishant Singh Reveals 90% of Drishyam The Conclusion Unit Was Unaware of the Climax
Actor Nishant Singh, who plays undercover cop Shiv in the Drishyam franchise, shared details about the secrecy surrounding the climax of Drishyam The Conclusion, working with the cast, and the origin of the 'Changu Mangu' reference.
Nishant Singh, who plays the undercover cop Shiv alongside Neha Joshi as Jenny in Drishyam 2 and Drishyam The Conclusion, recently discussed the secrecy surrounding the film's climax. Playing neighbours to Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) while tasked with finding clues regarding Meera Deshmukh's (Tabu) son, Singh revealed that 90% of the film unit was kept in the dark about the ending.
Comparing the experience to the plot, Singh stated, “Vijay Salgaonkar jo Meera Deshmukh aur Goa ki public ke saath kar rahe the, wohi Abhishek sir hamare saath kar rahe the!” He explained that only the core team knew the climax, while the rest of the crew engaged in speculations. Singh was provided with only his scenes, though his presence in the pre-climax room alongside Rajveer Singh Tomar (Jaideep Ahlawat) and Indrajit Shetty (Prakash Raj) gave him some insight.
Addressing the memorable 'Changu Mangu' moniker used by advocate Indrajit Shetty, Singh credited dialogue writer Aamil Keeyan Khan. Khan got the idea after learning that director Abhishek Pathak referred to him and another writer as 'Changu Mangu'.
Reflecting on his background, Singh, who hails from Sitamarhi, Bihar, shared that his fluency in Marathi for his character came from pursuing a two-year master's course at the Academy of Theatre Arts, University of Mumbai, where he lived with Marathi-speaking roommates.
Singh also recalled working with Ajay Devgn during a tense drunk scene in Drishyam 2 where his character charges at Devgn. Hesitant at first, Singh told Devgn, “Sir, meri fatt rahi hai!” Devgn reassured him by holding his hand and saying, “Tu aa na mere upar. Koi dikkat nahin hai.” He also praised the calm and down-to-earth demeanour of Devgn, Tabu, and Shriya Saran, and described Prakash Raj as funny and cool.
Regarding the future of the franchise, Singh noted that while the series currently concludes, a fourth instalment could happen if demanded by the audience.
