Past Present Zenturo Explores Time and Presence in Contemporary Society
Past Present Zenturo is a collective theatre creation directed by André Haidamus that investigates the experience of time and presence in contemporary society.
Past Present Zenturo investigates the experience of time and presence in contemporary society through a collective creation that interrelates with Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov and March to Zenturo by Grace Passô. The performance incorporates themes and procedures from the ‘viewpoints’ practice, featuring a narrative set in the year 2441 where living in the “now” has become a disease. Characters struggle with delays, missed connections, and communication failures during a New Year's Eve party reunion, while a march chants “For Zenturo!” outside.
The production is directed by André Haidamus, a theatre director, teacher, and cultural producer who conducts practice-based research in acting, actor training, and ensemble creation at Teatro Escola Macunaíma. His work combines contemporary practices with elements of the Stanislavski System.
The theatre group Zenturo, based in São Paulo, Brazil, is formed by actors trained at Teatro Escola Macunaíma. The group combines the foundations of the Stanislavski System with contemporary procedures and has built a repertoire engaging with various authors and theatrical traditions. Zenturo marked Brazil’s debut at the 5th GITIS FEST in Moscow, Russia, in April 2024, and was selected for a season at the Theatre of the University of São Paulo in 2025.
