Preity Zinta Discusses the Challenges of Filmmaking in Today's Landscape

Preity Zinta shares her thoughts on how changing theatrical habits, smaller budgets, and rapid social media reactions have made filmmaking tougher today.

Preity Zinta has discussed the challenges of making films in the current environment, pointing to changing audience habits and rapid content reactions as factors that make filmmaking tougher. The actress shared these thoughts while discussing her latest project Vibe.

Addressing the shifting theatrical landscape, Preity noted that people are going to theatres less frequently, raising the stakes for filmmakers. She observed that projects are increasingly being made on smaller budgets and requiring longer hours as audiences split their attention between theatres, online platforms, and social media.

Preity also highlighted how social media alters how audiences respond to films prior to release. According to the actress, viewers form immediate judgments from early visuals or scenes, often sharing reactions, spoilers, and reviews before a film officially debuts. She contrasted this with earlier times, when word of mouth relied on people visiting theatres and sharing opinions afterward, noting that the months of hard work involved in making a film now face swift public scrutiny.

These comments arrive as filmmakers navigate both theatrical and digital spaces. Vibe, written and directed by Kunal Kemmu, stars Preity alongside Kemmu and Sparsh Shrivastava. Additionally, Preity described Kunal Kemmu as a tough taskmaster rather than just the funny persona seen on screen.
