Prison Chief Resigns After Christa Pike's Botched Execution
Christa Pike, a 50-year-old death row inmate in Tennessee, survived two botched execution attempts involving fatal injections on September 30, 2026. Pike and her then-boyfriend, Tadaryl Shipp, were convicted of first-degree murder conspiracy for the 1995 killing of their classmate, Colleen Slemmer.
Following the failed execution, which left Pike hospitalized on a ventilator, Correction Commissioner Frank Strada resigned. Colleen Slemmer's parents expressed disappointment, feeling that the Tennessee law failed to provide them justice and stating that the state owes them a big apology as they traveled back home to Florida.
