Ramesh Taurani Reveals 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman' Song 'Loveria' Was Originally For Shekhar Kapur
Ramesh Taurani shared an anecdote about how the hit song 'Loveria' from Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman was initially meant for a Shekhar Kapur film, and discussed G P Sippy's contribution to the track.
Ramesh Taurani and Kumar Taurani spoke to Komal Nahta about their journey and experience working on the music of several important films. During the discussion, Ramesh Taurani shared an anecdote from the music sitting of Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992).
Reflecting on working with producer Viveck Vaswani and music directors Jatin-Lalit, Taurani recalled asking for a catchy song. Jatin-Lalit initially stated they had such a track reserved for a Shekhar Kapur film. They played 'Sardi Khaasi Na Malaria Hua, Main Gaya Yaaron Mujhko Loveria Hua' in 1991. Taurani recalled telling the composers that Shekhar Kapur would not make a film for the next 20 years, leading them to agree to use 'Loveria' for Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. Taurani explained that his prediction was based on his previous interactions with Kapur while attempting to make a film titled Champion with Bobby Deol, which ultimately was not made after 5 to 6 months of discussions.
Recalling the next music sitting in the presence of producer G P Sippy, Taurani shared that Sippy initially did not understand the word 'Loveria' and was given an explanation that it was a play on 'malaria'. As Jatin-Lalit sang the track again, Sippy stopped them at the line 'Main gaya yaaron mujhko' and suggested adding 'Love Love Love' before 'Loveria Hua' so the audience would understand the lyrics. Taurani acknowledged that Sippy's recommendation immensely helped the song convey its meaning to the public.
