Rashmika Mandanna Addresses South Indian Accent Criticism on Koffee With Karan Season 9

Rashmika Mandanna addressed the criticism she has faced regarding her South Indian accent in Hindi cinema during an appearance on Koffee With Karan Season 9. Speaking to host Karan Johar, the actor explained that she never considered the comments a problem because her accent is a part of her identity.

Responding to Karan's question about whether the criticism bothered her, Rashmika stated, “I particularly didn't have an issue with that because they said I had a South Indian accent, but I'm from the South of India. So I am going to have an accent.”

The actor explained that she wanted to work across multiple film industries and speak various languages from early in her career. While she has faced both praise and criticism for her performances, language, acting, and accent, she chose not to let these opinions create barriers for her career opportunities.

Rashmika also discussed dubbing her own performances in different languages. She revealed that she consistently offers her directors the choice to use another artist for dubbing if preferred, but her directors have consistently chosen to keep her voice. She noted that dubbing her own roles is a matter of pride and provides her with satisfaction as an actor.

In addition to discussing her accent and language work, Rashmika talked about her approach to choosing diverse roles, highlighting the contrasting characters she has played in films such as Pushpa, The Girlfriend, and Ananya.
