Rasika Dugal Discusses Transition From Mirzapur to Little Thomas
Rasika Dugal opens up about shifting from her role as Beena Tripathi in Mirzapur to playing Jessie Miranda in the 1990s Goa-set film Little Thomas.
Rasika Dugal returns to the big screen in Little Thomas, playing Jessie Miranda, a character very different from her role as Beena Tripathi in Mirzapur.
Set in 1990s Goa, Little Thomas tells the story of a young boy and his parents. Jessie Miranda is a mother focused on her family, bakery, and love for music, contrasting with the controlled intensity and survival-driven nature of Beena Tripathi.
Rasika worked on Mirzapur and Little Thomas simultaneously. She noted that juggling a crime action thriller and a dramedy served as a mutual relief.
A major challenge involved switching accents between the projects, moving from a strong North Indian Hindi accent for Beena to a Goan accent for Jessie. Rasika collaborated with a dialect coach to keep Jessie's voice distinct.
Additionally, Rasika spent four months learning to play the piano for the role, studying pieces by Mozart, Schumann, and Chopin while balancing filming with other commitments, such as a horror show.
Through Jessie Miranda, Rasika explores quieter emotions, family life, and a distinct emotional space far removed from her familiar Mirzapur persona.
