Remembering Nana Patekar: A Look Back at His Candid 2015 Interview

The film industry and the audience recently received the sad news of the passing away of veteran actor Nana Patekar due to a sudden heart attack. Known for giving memorable performances and speaking his mind during interviews, the late artiste shared candid thoughts during a 2015 group interview with Trade Guide magazine ahead of the release of his film Ab Tak Chhappan 2.

During the interview, Nana discussed why he avoided Marathi comedies from the mid-1980s to mid-1990s while praising the script preparation and choices of young contemporary Marathi filmmakers. He stated that the kind of films currently made in Marathi compelled him to act in them and enjoy the work.

Addressing his hesitation regarding Hindi films during that period, Nana criticized the lack of clarity from makers when approaching him for roles. He emphasized that having stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, or Shahid Kapoor pitted against his character was never his criteria for signing a film. Instead, he demanded clarity on the story, his character, the duration of the shoot, and his remuneration.
