Remembering Nana Patekar: Past Interviews Reveal His Views on Directing, Natsamrat, and The Kapil Sharma Show

Veteran actor Nana Patekar has passed away due to a sudden heart attack. Known for speaking his mind during interviews, Patekar gave a group interview in 2015 for Trade Guide magazine ahead of the release of his film Ab Tak Chhappan 2.

When asked if he interferes in the direction of his films, Patekar stated, “Yes, I interfere a lot. At times I also scold.” Regarding directing a film himself, he said, “I do it a lot unofficially. It’s just that my name doesn’t appear in the credits. But I will officially direct the third film in the Ab Tak Chhappan franchise. It will be shot in France and Istanbul.”

Discussing his Marathi film Natsamrat (2016), which was in the making at the time, Patekar shared, “I think after this film if I don’t act ever, it won’t make any difference to me as an artist. The role is that great!” He also noted that many actors who previously played that character had passed away, describing it as a gratifying role that also "sucks your blood."

Later in the interview, Patekar expressed his aversion to promoting his work on The Kapil Sharma Show. “I will never go to Kapil Sharma’s show to promote my film,” he said. “If my film is supposed to do well after going to that show, it is better that it doesn’t do well... I personally don’t like that show. If you need to insult someone to make people laugh, I don’t prefer that.”

Additionally, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that Nana Patekar’s funeral is to be held with full state honours.
