The actor spent years privately challenging Hollywood to provide more opportunities for disabled actors. Mitte lived with cerebral palsy. The Daily Mail obtained dozens of text messages exchanged between Mitte and his friend from 2017 to 2025. In a message dated April 7, 2017, Mitte detailed uncomfortable encounters with casting directors.
