Rupali Ganguly Gets Emotional Remembering Family Struggles and Late Father's Dream
At FICCI Frames 2026, actress Rupali Ganguly emotionaly shared how the success of Anupamaa allowed her to fulfill her late father's dream of buying a Mumbai home after years of financial hardship.
Actress Rupali Ganguly became emotional while recalling her family’s financial struggles and her late father, filmmaker Anil Ganguly’s long-standing dream of owning a house in Mumbai. Speaking at FICCI Frames 2026 in Mumbai on Wednesday, September 30, she opened up about the difficult phase her family experienced and how the success of Anupamaa helped her fulfill her father's wish.
Rupali explained that her father had to make difficult financial decisions while pursuing filmmaking outside the corporate system, which eventually led to their family losing their property. "There was a point when we lost it all. My father's only dream was to make a house in Mumbai," she recalled.
Reflecting on growing up as a filmmaker's daughter, Rupali stated that she wanted to build something of her own while honoring her father's dream. "Anupamaa hua and maine apna pehla ghar khareeda," she said.
Producer Rajan Shahi, also present at the event, recalled Rupali's early struggles in the industry. He revealed that he had initially rejected her after three auditions for their first show together. "That time, she used to walk all the way from Worli as she didn't have money to travel by bus," Rajan said, prompting Rupali to wipe away tears on stage.
