Samay Chakra Explores Environmental Responsibility Through Theatre
Directed by Rajeshwar Seetohul and performed by the Vacoas Rang Bhoomi Kala Mandir theatre group, the play Samay Chakra examines human impact on nature, the consequences of greed, and the potential for a sustainable future.
About Samay Chakra
Set in the year 2898, Samay Chakra takes place in a world devastated by human carelessness and greed, where rivers have dried up and forests are gone. The play opens with survivors crawling for water, illustrating the severe consequences of neglecting nature. Time serves as the narrator, describing Earth's past state of harmony and beauty, and explaining how human actions damaged the planet. Heartbroken by this negligence, Mother Earth reacts with natural disasters. Through the survivors' experiences, the play highlights human responsibility, the effects of personal choices, and a message of hope regarding humanity's capacity to heal the Earth and build a sustainable future.

The play contrasts a harmonious past with a future defined by reckless choices, destruction, and silence. Performed primarily in Mauritian Kreol with elements of English and Hindi, the production reflects on human duality, responsibility, and time.
