Sameer Anjaan Discusses the Challenges of Writing for A.R. Rahman in The Legend of Bhagat Singh

Lyricist Sameer Anjaan recently discussed his experience working with composer A.R. Rahman on the film The Legend of Bhagat Singh during an episode of Komal Nahta’s Game Changers: The Music Series. The conversation covered Sameer’s career, his songwriting approach, and challenges faced while working on memorable film soundtracks.

Sameer holds a Guinness World Record as one of the most prolific lyricists in Indian cinema. During the episode, he revealed that writing for Rahman presented unique challenges and noted that they only collaborated on the one film, which was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and released in 2002.

Recalling the collaboration, Sameer stated, "I found it difficult to write for AR Rahman. I have only worked with him on one movie, The Legend of Bhagat Singh. If you listen to the songs, you'll understand how difficult they were to write. The movie has become a legendary film, and there were some lines taken from the original words of the 'Shaheeds'. Reimagining and writing them was very difficult for me. It was a fun memory."

He further explained that adapting portions of songs from the original words of the martyrs depicted in the film while keeping their essence intact was a creative challenge. The episode is available to watch on the show's YouTube channel.
