Sandeepa Dhar Credits Aatish Kapadia for Her Comedy Debut in Chumbak

Netflix’s Chumbak has been drawing attention for its quirky characters, situational humour, and distinct storytelling. Within the ensemble cast, Sandeepa Dhar plays Kiran, bringing a grounded perspective to the show's chaotic world.

Reflecting on joining the project, Sandeepa shared that she received an unexpected call on a Thursday from the director stating that Netflix and JD–Aatish wanted to test her for the show. Initially surprised about doing comedy, she found the audition scene hilarious after reading it.

The deciding factor for Sandeepa was meeting creator and director Aatish Kapadia. She recalled his narration, where he played all the characters himself like a play, praising him as a brilliant actor and director.

Sandeepa also discussed the challenge of playing Kiran, noting that she is relatively sane and reacts to situations in the way viewers might. She explained the importance of creating humour through reactions without overdoing them to avoid becoming gimmicky, a balance she discussed with Aatish.
