Sandeepa Dhar Highlights Refreshing Portrayal of Women in Chumbak

Actor Sandeepa Dhar recently shared her thoughts on what drew her to the series Chumbak, highlighting the unique and active roles given to its female characters.

Explaining her decision to join the project, Sandeepa stated, “I was interested in the show because women were not shown as stereotypical beings. Usually, in a comedy, the men have all the comic parts while women are just supporting characters. But that is not the case here at all.”

She highlighted the character Twinkle, played by Helly Shah, as a prime example of this approach, noting that Twinkle acts as the forerunner of comedy in the series.

Sandeepa also discussed the intentional effort to avoid conventional gender roles. “We’re not showing women sitting and cooking or serving food to men. In fact, that is something Aatish has done very purposefully. He made sure that we are not following stereotypical gender roles,” she said.

According to the actor, this distinct treatment of female characters was apparent right from the script reading stage, making the project stand out for her.
