Shefali Shah Discusses Writing About Her First Marriage and Divorce in Memoir
Actor Shefali Shah opens up about discussing her first marriage and divorce in her memoir-in-essays, The Audacity of Being, emphasizing that she addressed the topic respectfully without naming individuals or detailing specific events.
Shefali Shah has spoken about addressing her first marriage and divorce in her memoir-in-essays, The Audacity of Being. Known for keeping her personal life private, the actor explained in an interaction with The Indian Express that her book does not name individuals or delve into the specifics of her separation.
Shefali stated that she instead focuses on the general experience of relationships failing. “I’m not naming anyone in the book. I’m not even getting into what happened or didn’t happen. I’m just talking about what happens on a general scale when people get married and nobody’s prepared for a divorce,” she said.
According to the actor, the writing explores the emotional and practical reality when a relationship falls apart, rather than assigning blame. She noted there was nothing to hide and that she approached the subject respectfully, focusing on the failure of a relationship.
Shefali was previously married to actor Harsh Chhaya from 1997 to 2001. She later married filmmaker and producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah, with whom she shares two sons, Aryaman and Maurya.
Professionally, Shefali has starred in films such as Waqt: The Race Against Time, Dil Dhadakne Do, Jalsa, and Darlings. She also gained international recognition for her role as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi in the Netflix series Delhi Crime, which earned the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series.
