Singer Mika Singh Discusses Experiences in Pakistan and Views on Pakistani Artistes

In a recent podcast appearance, singer Mika Singh shared his experiences visiting Pakistan, discussed Muslims helping maintain gurdwaras, and expressed his views on Pakistani artistes working in India.

Singer Mika Singh recently discussed his experiences in Pakistan, interactions with local people, and his views on Pakistani artistes working in India during a conversation on the Baatein Dil Se podcast. The 50-year-old singer recalled his 2019 visit to Pakistan, stating that he received respect from local people, including Muslims who assisted in maintaining Sikh religious sites.

Mika remembered seeing Muslims contribute to the upkeep of gurdwaras in Pakistan, noting that they served at the gurdwaras and helped with cleaning. Discussing Sikh shrines linked to Guru Nanak Dev in Pakistan, Mika stated he did not view Pakistan or its people as inherently bad. He questioned why Indians perceive Pakistani Muslims differently compared to Muslims from Dubai, remarking that he has never understood why Pakistan's Muslims are disliked while Dubai's Muslims are liked.

Addressing Pakistani singers performing in India and Diljit Dosanjh working with cross-border artistes, Mika stated he has no issue with Pakistani singers coming to India. He pointed out that Bollywood welcomes every Pakistani singer and noted that performing at a private function, taking money, and returning openly is different from hiding, as travellers fly in view of the world.

Recalling his visit to Pakistan before the Uri attack, Mika mentioned he travelled with a visa and stated performing there should not automatically be viewed as a political statement, adding that respect given by Pakistanis should be appreciated.

Mika's comments follow a past professional ban in India after his 2019 performance at a pre-wedding celebration in Karachi involving a close relative of former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf. Following video footage of the performance, the AICWA and FWICE announced a boycott and barred him from professional work in the Indian entertainment industry. The ban was lifted later that month after Mika apologised and explained the event was a professional commitment finalized before developments surrounding Article 370.
